Description
Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge, J-916 pairs the inscribed-diadem Liberty Head with the regular-issue eagle reverse in the program's lightest metal. The aluminum composition makes this one of the most visually deceptive pieces in the quarter series: its silvery-white surface mimics actual silver so convincingly that only handling reveals the dramatic weight difference. The eagle reverse's intricate detail transfers well to aluminum, which accepts fine die impressions readily despite its softness, and the reeded edge provides the expected quarter-like tactile experience apart from the startling lack of heft.
