Description
The plain-edge copper version of this design group, J-915 renders the inscribed-diadem Liberty Head and regular-issue eagle reverse with the medallic finish that collectors of the era particularly prized. The combination of Barber's most classically restrained portrait and the majestic eagle reverse produces a coin that would not have looked out of place among European medallions of the period. Copper strikings with plain edges from the 1870 series frequently survive in exceptional condition, as their obvious non-circulation status ensured careful preservation from the moment of their creation.
Rarity Notes
