Description
Closing the sixth design group, J-911 pairs the three-star cap Liberty Head obverse and regular-issue eagle reverse in aluminum with a plain edge. This final variety in the group completes Barber's exploration of combining his proposed new portrait with the established reverse across all six standard metal-and-edge combinations. The aluminum plain-edge configuration represents the maximum departure from production norms while retaining the design vocabulary of actual coinage, an artistic thought experiment in the relationship between a coin's physical substance and its symbolic authority.
