Description
Presenting the fifth obverse design in the quarter series, J-900 features a Liberty Head facing right, wearing a headband ornamented with a single star and inscribed LIBERTY, with her hair flowing in loose curls. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA encircles the bust, and IN GOD WE TRUST appears on a curved scroll below. The reverse displays the familiar STANDARD agricultural wreath framing 25 CENTS. Struck in silver with a reeded edge, this variety is among the more available 1870 quarter patterns, having been produced for sale to collectors in denominational sets priced at $15.00. The single-star headband distinguishes this portrait from both the three-star cap of J-888 and the plain diadem of J-894.
Rarity Notes
