Description
The plain-edge silver counterpart to J-894, this Liberty Head quarter pattern with inscribed diadem and STANDARD wreath reverse occupies a scarcer position in the survival census than its reeded-edge twin. The absence of edge reeding on a silver quarter-sized planchet produces a smoother, more tactile handling experience that emphasizes the coin's medallion-like qualities. The Liberty Head with diadem design represents Barber's most classical portrait approach in the quarter series, drawing on Greco-Roman sculptural traditions where headbands inscribed with the wearer's identity were a common artistic convention.
