Description

Combining the three-star cap Liberty Head obverse and STANDARD wreath reverse on a copper planchet with a plain edge, J-891 exhibits the full medallic character of this design without the visual interruption of edge reeding. The plain edge treatment allows collectors to appreciate the die work from rim to rim, and the copper composition develops a rich, warm patina over time that many collectors find more aesthetically pleasing than the cooler tones of silver. Pattern specialists note that plain-edge copper examples often exhibit the sharpest strikes in their respective groups, as the metal flows more freely without edge containment.

Rarity Notes

R-7. Extremely rare, estimated 4-12 examples survive.
