The 1870 Proof Quarter Eagle Pattern - J-1027 is a proof quarter eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series. It was struck from the regular 1870 quarter eagle dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1870 off-metal strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, rather than true die trials. Two are known in aluminum. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1162 and Adams-Woodin 842. Cataloged as PCGS #61275.
