Description
This 1867 three-cent nickel is the Cuds on Coins entry RCD-3c(N)-1867-02R & 03R Stage A & 04R Stage A: retained cuds on the reverse die, numbered 02R, 03R and 04R. The images are courtesy of Fred Weinberg, and no cross-reference is listed. Cuds on Coins also points to this reverse from its PC-3c(N)-1867-01 pre-cud entry. A retained cud forms when a piece of the die at the rim breaks away from the rest of the die but stays in place, so the coins it strikes show a raised section that still carries the design.
