Description
The 1866 Proof Dime Pattern - J-535 is a proof dime pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It was struck from the regular 1866 Seated Liberty dime dies, so its design matches the regular coin; only the metal differs. Judd lists it in silver-nickel with a reeded edge, and USPatterns.com rates it R-8. Judd classes it as a die trial, a strike from regular dies in a metal other than the coin's own. USPatterns.com doubts a separate silver-nickel version exists and believes these are the same as J-534. It is catalogued as Judd-535, Pollock-599, Adams-Woodin 540. Cataloged as PCGS #60733.
