Description
The 1863 Proof Quarter Pattern - J-336 is a proof quarter struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. This quarter carries the IN GOD WE TRUST reverse adopted in 1866, so it is often called a transitional piece; USPatterns says these were made after 1866, from about 1869 into the early 1870s, and sold in sets. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge; USPatterns rates it R-7. Catalogued as Judd-336, Pollock-408, A/W 379, Taxay EP361. Cataloged as PCGS #60498.
