Description

Judd-336, Pollock-388, is the second 1863 proof quarter motto pattern, featuring an alternative arrangement of the IN GOD WE TRUST motto from J-335. This variation may position the motto on a different type of scroll or ribbon, or place it in a different location relative to the eagle device. The three 1863 quarter patterns (J-335 through J-337) provided enough design options for officials to evaluate the best approach for this denomination. The quarter would eventually receive the With Motto design in 1866, incorporating lessons learned from these 1863 experiments.
