Description
The 1863 Proof Half Dime Pattern - J-324 is a proof half dime struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. Although listed in the references as a trial of the regular half dime dies, USPatterns describes it as a backdated piece made from about 1869 into the early 1870s to complete off-metal sets sold with the In God We Trust quarter, half dollar and dollar. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge; USPatterns rates it R-7. Catalogued as Judd-324, Pollock-389, A/W 394. Cataloged as PCGS #60481.
