Description
The 1861 Proof Eagle Pattern - J-287 is a proof eagle struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. This eagle carries the motto GOD OUR TRUST in the open field above the eagle, a forerunner of IN GOD WE TRUST; USPatterns records copper examples from low-date and high-date obverse dies, usually bronzed or gilt. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge; USPatterns rates it R-7. Catalogued as Judd-287, Pollock-342 and 344, A/W 340, Taxay EP310. Cataloged as PCGS #60433.
