Civil War patriotic token combining Fuld obverse die 514, a Southern sympathizer design inscribed "NO SUBMISSION TO THE NORTH," one of the provocative secession-themed pieces struck by Benjamin True of Cincinnati — these pro-Confederate tokens are paradoxically among the most collected Civil War token types, with reverse die 516 bearing the provocative inscription "NO SUBMISSION TO THE NORTH". This Southern sympathizer legend appeared on Benjamin True's secession series. Benjamin True of Cincinnati engraved this 1860 campaign die series for John Stanton. The series includes both pro-Union and pro-Southern designs, a record of the political divide on the eve of war. Brass tokens stand out from the copper majority with their warm golden hue. The brass industry centered in Waterbury, Connecticut provided ready access to this alloy for New England token manufacturers. Bearing the date 1860.
