The 1859 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-247 is a proof half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Early Republic Patterns (1792-1859) series. It pairs Anthony C. Paquet's Seated Liberty obverse with HALF DOLLAR in a cereal wreath; USPatterns lists over a half dozen in silver. Struck during the California Gold Rush era, when vast quantities of western gold transformed the American economy and led to new denominations.
