Description
A Gold Eagle from the New Orleans Mint, the 1854 (O) Liberty Head Eagle - Small Date belongs to the Liberty Head Eagles 1838-1907 series. The 52,500 figure covers every 1854-O eagle; the Small Date share of it is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons. San Francisco eagle production established. Philadelphia and New Orleans continued. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8614.
