Description
The 1853 (O) Liberty Gold Dollar is a Gold Dollar from the New Orleans Mint, belonging to the Liberty Head Gold Dollars 1849-1854 series. The New Orleans Mint struck 290,000 gold dollars dated 1853. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, encircled by thirteen stars, and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing the denomination 1 DOLLAR and the date. Gold dollars were struck at Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dahlonega and New Orleans. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.672 grams, 13 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7524.
