Description
The 1852 (O) Liberty Gold Dollar is a Gold Dollar produced at the New Orleans Mint as part of the Liberty Head Gold Dollars 1849-1854 series. With a mintage of 140,000, this is a less common issue — ranked 3rd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 6% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, encircled by a wreath and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing the denomination 1 DOLLAR and the date. Strong production across multiple mints driven by California Gold Rush bullion. Struck at the New Orleans Mint, which operated from 1838 to 1909 and produced coins prized for their historical Southern provenance. Estimated market value ranges from $466 to $5.3K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.7 grams, 12.7 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
