Coin Details
Description
This half dollar piece, dated 1851, is BG-1318 in the Breen-Gillio catalogue, in the BG-1300 group of later pieces that follows the genuine California fractional gold. The BG-1300 numbers follow the genuine Period One and Period Two pieces in Breen-Gillio and include copies, restrikes and imitations made after the period (Locke 2013). No source read describes BG-1318 individually; the BG-1300 numbers that sources do describe are later copies and restrikes (Locke 2013). Period One pieces are undated or dated 1852 to 1856 (Locke FAQ); 1851 is earlier than any of them. Catalogue number: BG-1318 (Breen-Gillio). PCGS number 516791.
