Description
The 1841 (D) Liberty Head Quarter Eagle was struck at the Dahlonega Mint as a Gold Quarter Eagle in the Liberty Head Quarter Eagles 1840-1907 series. The Dahlonega Mint struck 4,164 quarter eagles dated 1841. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons. Charlotte and Dahlonega continued quarter eagle production alongside Philadelphia. The Dahlonega Mint in Georgia struck gold coins from 1838 until its closure at the start of the Civil War in 1861. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7722.
