Description
A Gold Half Eagle from the Dahlonega Mint, the 1841 (D) Liberty Head Half Eagle - Tall D belongs to the Liberty Head Half Eagles 1839-1908 series. The Dahlonega Mint struck 29,392 half eagles dated 1841 in all; how many have the Tall D is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons. Four-mint production continued. The 1841-C and 1841-D are collected by Southern gold specialists. Dahlonega's Georgia mint operated from 1838 to 1861, processing Appalachian gold into coins. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.65 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #98204.
