Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1836 Classic Head Quarter Eagle - Block 8 is part of the Classic Head Quarter Eagles 1834-1839 series. The 547,986 figure covers every 1836 quarter eagle, Block 8 and Script 8 together; how many show the Block 8 is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a fillet or headband inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with no motto. Script 8 and Block 8 varieties exist. Mintage remained robust at Philadelphia. Struck in 89.9% gold, 10.1% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18.2 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #97694.
