Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1834 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Small 8 is part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. Every 1834 cent is counted in the 1.9 million mintage; how many show the Small 8 is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, with stars around the border, and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large 8, Small 8, and Large Stars/Small Stars varieties. One of the final dates of the original Matron Head type. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1708.
