Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1834 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Small 8 is part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. With a mintage of 1.9 million, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only 25% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large 8, Small 8, and Large Stars/Small Stars varieties. One of the final dates of the original Matron Head type. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $38 to $1.1K depending on grade and condition.
