The 1834 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Large Letter Reverse is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. With a mintage of 1.9 million, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only 25% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large 8, Small 8, and Large Stars/Small Stars varieties. One of the final dates of the original Matron Head type. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792.
