Description
The 1834 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Large Letter Reverse is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. With a mintage of 1.9 million, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only 25% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large 8, Small 8, and Large Stars/Small Stars varieties. One of the final dates of the original Matron Head type. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $38 to $1.1K depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1705.
