Description
The 1829 Classic Head Half Cent - Cohen 1 is a special strike half cent struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Classic Head Half Cents 1809-1836 series. No figure was recorded for these special strikings, which PCGS lists as specimens; the Mint reported 487,000 half cents for 1829 in all, all from one pair of dies. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a fillet or headband inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing HALF CENT. Struck during a period of national unity and westward expansion following the War of 1812, as the U.S. grew in confidence and territory. Struck in copper, weighing 5.44 grams, 23.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #518080.
