Description
The 1829 Capped Bust Dime - Large 10C was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a dime in the Capped Bust Dimes 1809-1837 series. With a mintage of 770,000, this is a less common issue — the lowest mintage among 7 mint variants, representing only 14% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mob cap or turban and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. The first full year of the small-type Capped Bust Dime with the close-collar striking technology. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $6.3K to $54K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 2.67 grams, 18.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #94511.
