Description
The 1828 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Small Wide Date was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a cent in the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. Philadelphia struck 2.3 million cents dated 1828 across both date styles; the Small Wide Date share is unknown. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, with stars around the border, and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large Narrow Date and Small Wide Date varieties exist. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1657.
