Description
The 1828 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Small Wide Date is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. With a mintage of 2.3 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 46% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large Narrow Date and Small Wide Date varieties exist. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792.
