Description
A cent from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1828 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Large Narrow Date belongs to the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. The 1828 cent had a mintage of 2.3 million in all, Large Narrow Date and Small Wide Date together; how the total divides is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, with stars around the border, and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large Narrow Date and Small Wide Date varieties exist. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1654.
