Description
Part of the Capped Bust Dimes 1809-1837 series, the 1820 Capped Bust Dime - Small 0 is a dime from the Philadelphia Mint. In all, 942,587 dimes were struck in 1820, Small 0 and Large 0 together; how many have the Small 0 is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mobcap and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Several die varieties exist. The Capped Bust Dime remained a Philadelphia-only issue throughout the series. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 2.7 grams, 18.8 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4493.
