Description
The 1811 Classic Head Half Cent - Wide Date is part of the Classic Head Half Cents 1809-1836 series. Philadelphia coined 63,140 half cents dated 1811 across both date spacings; the Wide Date share is unknown. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a fillet or headband inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing HALF CENT. A private restrike pairs a rusted 1811 obverse die with a reverse die of 1802; Walter Breen placed it outside the Mint, about 1858 or 1859. Struck in copper, weighing 5.44 grams, 23.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge.
