About This Coin
The 1811 Classic Head Half Cent is a United States half cent from the Classic Head Half Cents 1809-1836 series. The Mint reported 63,140 half cents for 1811, a calendar-year figure that can include coins with other dates. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a fillet or headband inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing HALF CENT. A private restrike pairs a rusted 1811 obverse die with a reverse die of 1802; Walter Breen placed it outside the Mint, about 1858 or 1859. Struck in copper, weighing 5.44 grams, 23.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Designed by John Reich.
