Description

The 1809 Classic Head Half Cent - 1809/6, 9 over Inverted 9 is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Classic Head Half Cents 1809-1836 series. The U.S. Mint produced 1.2 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 33% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a fillet or headband inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing HALF CENT. First year of the Classic Head Half Cent after a gap in production (1812-1824 saw no half cents). Multiple Cohen die varieties exist. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $103 to $4.8K depending on grade and condition.
