Error
Description
A die clash is visible on the obverse of this 1803 Draped Bust large cent of the Small Date, Large Fraction variety (Sheldon S-245). A die clash occurs when the obverse and reverse dies strike each other without a planchet between them, transferring elements of each die's design onto the opposing die. On the obverse, leaves of the wreath from the reverse are visible between the bust and chin. The 1803 cent had a mintage of 3,131,691, and S-245 is one of the Small Date, Large Fraction die pairings for this year.
