Description

Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1795 Liberty Cap Cent - Lettered Edge is part of the Liberty Cap Cents 1793-1796 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 37,000 Liberty Cap cents dated 1795 with the lettered edge, at the old weight of 13.48 grams. The obverse features Liberty facing right with a Phrygian cap on a pole behind her head, symbolizing freedom and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT and 1/100 of a dollar. Lettered Edge and Plain Edge varieties exist. Multiple Sheldon die varieties cataloged. Struck in copper, weighing 13.48 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a lettered: one hundred for a dollar edge.
