Description
The 1795 Liberty Cap Cent - Lettered Edge is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Liberty Cap Cents 1793-1796 series. With a mintage of 37,000, this is an extremely rare issue — ranked 3rd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 7% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing right with a Phrygian cap on a pole behind her head, symbolizing freedom and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT and 1/100 of a dollar. Lettered Edge and Plain Edge varieties exist. Multiple Sheldon die varieties cataloged. One of the more available dates in the series. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $241K depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper, weighing 13.48 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a lettered: one hundred for a dollar edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1377.
