Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1795 Liberty Cap Cent - Lettered Edge is part of the Liberty Cap Cents 1793-1796 series. With a mintage of 37,000, this is an extremely rare issue — ranked 3rd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 7% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing right with a Phrygian cap on a pole behind her head, symbolizing freedom and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT and 1/100 of a dollar. Lettered Edge and Plain Edge varieties exist. Multiple Sheldon die varieties cataloged. One of the more available dates in the series. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $241K depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper, weighing 13.48 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a lettered: one hundred for a dollar edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1377.
