Description
The 1794 Liberty Cap Cent - Starred Reverse is a cent from the Philadelphia Mint, belonging to the Liberty Cap Cents 1793-1796 series. The U.S. Mint produced 918,521 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only 20% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing right with a Phrygian cap on a pole behind her head, symbolizing freedom and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT and 1/100 of a dollar. Robert Scot took over engraving duties. Head of 1793 and Head of 1794 subtypes reflect the design transition. Multiple Sheldon die varieties. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding.
