Description
The 1794 Franklin Press Half Penny Token - Diagonally Reeded Edge is filed under Franklin Press Tokens in the Post-1776 Private and Regional Issues (1778-1820) series. The Franklin Press token of 1794 shows an old-style printing press with the legend SIC ORITUR DOCTRINA SURGETQUE LIBERTAS, and on the reverse the words PAYABLE AT THE FRANKLIN PRESS LONDON. Crosby thought it might better be called an English token but kept it among American pieces because of its reference to Franklin; the piece he described has a plain edge. PCGS lists it as #45429.
