Description

The 1793 Wreath Cent - Vine and Bars is part of the Flowing Hair Wreath Cents 1793 series. The U.S. Mint produced 63,353 examples. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars, while the reverse displays a wreath of laurel and berries enclosing ONE CENT with a trefoil at the top. Designed by Attributed to Henry Voight. Struck in copper, weighing 13.48 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a bars and vines edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1347. The Wreath Cent replaced the controversial Chain Cent in mid-1793, adding a more ornate and less politically charged reverse design. Produced for only part of one year, all Wreath Cents are scarce. Varieties with different edge treatments and the "AMERI." reverse are particularly sought after.
