Description
The (1790) Albany Church Penny - D Above is filed under Albany Church Penny in the Post-1776 Private and Regional Issues (1778-1820) series. In January 1790 the trustees of the First Presbyterian Church of Albany, New York, voted to have a thousand coppers stamped for the congregation, to be exchanged at twelve to the shilling (search). The pieces read CHURCH PENNY; one variety has a D added above the word CHURCH, and some were struck over older coppers (search). It is catalogued as Breen-1170. PCGS lists it as #610.
