1784 Washington Ugly Head - Pewter
Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
A 1784 Washington "Ugly Head" in pewter, the same crude portrait type as the copper version but struck in a tin-lead alloy. Pewter examples are considerably rarer than copper ones. The soft metal has generally resulted in poorer preservation, making well-preserved pewter Ugly Head pieces particularly valuable. The unflattering portrait remains the defining feature of this variety.
Rarity Notes
Very rare. Pewter examples are much scarcer than copper.
