Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
A 1784 Washington "Ugly Head" copper piece, so named for its crude, unflattering portrait of Washington. The deliberately rough or unskilled portrait has given this variety one of the most memorable nicknames in the Washington series. The obverse features the crude Washington bust and the reverse typically shows a wreath. These were produced in England as novelty or satirical pieces.
Rarity Notes
Scarce. The Ugly Head is a popular named variety among Washington collectors.
