Description

This 1739 bronze medal, cataloged as Adams-Chao PBv 23-T, pairs obverse die 23 with reverse die T. The twenty-third portrait die in the PBv series matches the highest numbers seen in the PBvi subgroup, demonstrating that both portrait formats sustained comparable production scales. Reverse die T is a late-alphabet designation consistent with the advanced production phase. The PBv 23 portrait displays a distinctive interpretation of Vernon's appearance that differentiates it from the preceding twenty-two obverse dies. Each die sinker brought individual technique and aesthetic sensibility to the portrait, creating a gallery of Vernon likenesses across the PBv series.
