Description

The 1720 Twenty Sols is a French silver coin struck at the Caen mint (mint mark C) in 1720. The livre d'argent of the Compagnie des Indes was struck only at Paris, so a 1720 twenty sols from a provincial mint is the twenty sols of France and Navarre (one-sixth écu), struck at many mints in 1719 and 1720 (CoinVarieties). Its standard was 4.08 grams of .917 silver, with the crowned arms of France and Navarre dividing the denomination, engraved by Norbert Roettiers. In these years John Law's Compagnie des Indes held the right to coin money at the French mints.
