Description

The Lord Baltimore Shilling is the highest denomination in the Maryland colonial series. Two varieties exist: the Large Bust (Hodder 1-A, more common) and the Small Bust (Hodder 2-B, known by only two examples in silver). The obverse depicts Lord Baltimore's portrait, and the reverse shows the Baltimore family arms with the Roman numeral XII. Most surviving shillings are in poor condition, often holed and plugged from use as jewelry.

Rarity Notes

Scarce. Two varieties: Large Bust (Hodder 1-A, Rarity-6) and Small Bust (Hodder 2-B, only 2 known in silver). Most survivors are damaged from jewelry use.
