(1861-65) Brass Civil War Store Card F-500U-3b, D.S. Welch, Kendallville IN
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
Fuld IN-500U-3b is the brass version of D.S. Welch's die pair 3; its closing b means brass. The prefix IN and the number 500 identify Kendallville, Indiana, and U is Welch's merchant letter. NGC places this card in the 1861-65 bracket, as it does the copper 3a from the same dies. On die pair 2, by one dealer's transcription, Welch's card names dry goods and groceries, with an 1863 date and a flying eagle.
