Civil War store card from Michigan, cataloged as Fuld 225BT-1A. Michigan was a significant industrial state during the Civil War, with Detroit emerging as a major manufacturing center and merchants across the state producing tokens. This undated token was struck circa 1862-1864 during the wartime coin shortage. Die sinkers offered several metals; copper was the most used, and silver strikings were made for collectors. The token era ended in 1864, when Congress authorized a bronze cent and two-cent piece and outlawed private tokens.
