On Fuld MA-115E-1i the letter i means tin-plated, the metal of this striking from die pair 1 of Jos. H. Merriam, Boston, Massachusetts. The rest of the code is town 115 for Boston and E for Merriam; NGC gives 1863. Going by a dealer's account of the copper striking, one die is Merriam's own advertisement as die sinker and medalist at No. 18 Brattle Square, and the other shows the dog and the "Good For A Scent" pun.
