Description
Civil War store card issued by Jas. Murdock, Jr. of Non-Contemporary. This piece is cataloged as a non-contemporary Civil War token: a restrike, copy or collector piece made after the war. Non-contemporary pieces were made after the war as restrikes, copies or collector pieces. After Congress banned private tokens in 1864, the Mint began striking bronze cents and a new two-cent piece, which ended the shortage. Civil War tokens are collected by denomination type, state, city, and metal composition, with scarcer metals commanding significant premiums.
