(2023) Presidential Silver Medal - Andrew Johnson

Coin Details
Description
The Andrew Johnson Presidential Silver Medal features the seventeenth president on a one-ounce .999 fine silver medal with matte finish. Johnson's obverse portrait reproduces the historic bronze presidential medal design, showing the Tennessee tailor who became president after Lincoln's assassination. The reverse displays John Reich's "Peace and Friendship" clasped hands design. Johnson's tumultuous presidency (1865-1869) was defined by his conflicts with the Radical Republican Congress over Reconstruction policy, culminating in his impeachment by the House of Representatives in 1868 — the first president to face impeachment. He was acquitted by a single vote in the Senate. This silver medal was released in August 2023 as part of the Presidential Silver Medal series that has systematically honored each president in chronological order since 2018.
