Description
The 2021 (W) American Buffalo .9999 Fine Gold Fifty Dollar is part of the American Buffalo Gold 2006 to Date series. The Mint sold 350,500 one-ounce American Buffalo bullion coins in 2021, by its calendar-year sales figures; it publishes no count by date for these years. The obverse features James Earle Fraser's Native American portrait from the 1913 Buffalo nickel, which Fraser said combined the features of three chiefs, Iron Tail, Two Moons and Big Tree, and the reverse displays his American bison standing on a mound. Designed by James Earle Fraser. Struck in 99.99% gold, weighing 31.108 grams, 32.7 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #844923. The American Buffalo gold coin, introduced in 2006, was the first .9999 fine (24-karat) gold coin struck by the U.S. Mint for the public. The 2008 fractional set (1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz) was produced for only one year.
