Description
The 2021 (S) Proof Kennedy Half Dollar is a proof half dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Kennedy Half Dollars Clad and Silver Proof 1971 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 868,644 examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 7% of production. The obverse features John F. Kennedy facing left, based on the presidential medal by Gilroy Roberts and the reverse displays the Presidential Seal — a heraldic eagle with shield, olive branch, and arrows. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $43 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.61 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #853279.
