Description

The 2019 (P) Burnished San Antonio Missions National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a special strike quarter struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites β€” struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse incorporates elements of the Spanish Colonial Real coin with symbols of the missions: wheat, arches and a bell, a lion, and the San Antonio River. The park preserves four 18th-century Spanish frontier missions, the largest concentration of colonial missions in North America. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $490 SP70 07-08-2023 eBay. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #802441.
